Promote cycling by implementing the recommendations in the 'Get Britain Cycling' report.

The e-petition 'Promote cycling by implementing the recommendations in the 'Get Britain Cycling' report.' signed by us recently reached 57,759 signatures and a response has been made to it.

Read the response here and, if you want to, mail your local MPs and County Councillors to ask them, not if they support the report, but what they will do to expidite it in a timely manner.

New Scott Foil demoScott Foil 20

For a few weeks we have been loaned a medium to compliment our large Scott Foil 20.  I have just ridden it and prefer it to the large. It is strange how the passing of time effects your view of something. 12 months ago I was racing the Scott Foil Team Issue and described it as the stiffest bike that I had ridden. This morning I found it smooth and comfortable, to the extent that I was aiming it at potholes just to see how much it/I could take. Of course its stiff but pleasantly rideable and on a par with my Wilier Cento Uno and our demo De Rosa Merak.

Call the shop if you want to see why it is the fastest bike that we have ever ridden. We can lend you a Garmin 200 too if you want your records recording.

Zipvit new flavours have arrivedZipvit Energy gel

If you need an extra kick try the new caffeine Smooth Expresso. The caffeine gels must work as that is all JP takes for his Tuesday night Thrash.

Never has there been a reson to try to ride too far.

Quest Adventure Girl's ridesWomen's mountain bike rides

Our girl's only rides are getting more and more popular. On Saturday there were six out for a road ride and twelve on the mountain bike ride. A big thank you must go to the two ride leaders: Clare (MTB) and Nicole (road). Their skill and experience is a great help to any new rider wanting to learn more about riding or where to ride. The next mtb ride is in 11th May and the next road ride, a week later, on 18th May. For more dates follow this link: Girl's rides. So far this year bike sales to women are running more or less 50% of all bike sales.

Who cares about a bit of rain?Wet girl's road ride

We had 4 women out on the road ride and 6 on the Girls MTB ride. Well done! The weather doesn't get much worse that this.

Not only were these girls braving the weather but our customers were too. It was a very busy day, one we would be happy with in June let alone January.

I think that the UK is finally switching on to cycling. Hoorah!

Thank you to the intrepid girls out on the ride and to streams of customers keeping us busy.

Tomorrow is due to be dry and cool. Get out on your bikes!

Quest Adventure Mixed MTB ridesQuest Adventure Mixed MTB ride

The shop ride on Saturday 5th January was split into two groups as there are so many riders. Jimbo took one and JP the other.

Here is Jimbo's ride and here is JP's. Jimbo's report and movie even to Park Life can be found here: Sussex MTB.

Mixed ride photos can be found on Facebook.

Next months will be split into two groups again if the numbers cotinue to grow.

An even better ride in the frostFrosty morning ride

Not for the lazy this one. You need to get up early or ride at night to get the best of the winter riding. Keep an eye on the weather forecast for the next big freeze.

And remember: Don't ride on melting trails. You have been warned for the nth time.

Click on the pic for the blog.

Latest blog and another warning about riding on melting trails...

Whyteways, frozen trails, Gore Windstopper AlpX 2.0 zipp off, Northwave CelsiusGTX boots, Northwave Evo Arctic gloves and mud.

Read more here..

Great news: Its frosty, but beware of the melting Frosty trailstrails....

There is no better riding than on frozen trails. Better grip than at any other time of the year and you and your bike come back clean. Perfect! Don't be lazy, its worth getting up at the crack of dawn.

If you are a late sleeper and can't make the effort, be warned. Mountain biking on the trails once they melt can have dyer consequences. As the mud wraps around your tyre it builds up and the inexperienced rider just thinks more effort is needed. Wrong! Time to walk home.

Every year rider after rider comes into the shop with their rear mech ripped. The dispirited rider thought that more effort was all that was needed. The average repair bill is approximately £75 so unless you are wanting to keep us busy over the Winter take care when riding on melting trails.

Get up early and have the best riding you can get round here. You can climb and descend trails that you've never been able to do becasue the frozen ground gives you so much grip. Enjoy!

Here are some local road rides

I've finally listed out some road rides to do around here. I'll add some more soon with better descriptions. Bike Route Toaster now includes mountain bike tracks so soon I'll be able to add some of the best off road rides to upload to a GPS.

You'll find the road rides here: Local road rides

Bike Route Toaster will help you create a course where ever you are in the world, it takes only a couple of minutes and you'll never get lost again. They have recently added off road trails.

Whyte mini demo 8th September

We will have a Whyte T129, an M109 and a 29C all in medium for deom throughout thet day on the 8th September. You can borrow the bike for 45 minutes, enough time to ride our demo circuit up and around Cissbury and back (a good climb, some singletrachk and a downhill). You'll need to book as there are only 3 bikes and 6 rides. Call the shop 01903 573700/821296

Enjoy your local trails

It might not be Wales but we do have some great and demanding trails on our door step. Thanks to Wiston House and Steyning MTB.

There are some great and challenging runs with signs warning walkers that there is a cycle crossing and signs warning riders that there are pedestrians and equestrains around too.

Respect these trails and be sensible so that we can all enjoy them for years to come.

If you feel that you have to build your own contact Steyning MTB so that you don't upset anyone. Don't forget that every last centimetre is privately owned so we are riding with the owner's permission. They deserve thanks and respect.

2013 Whytes arrive w/c 20th August

The much anticipated 2013 Whyte 29ers begin to arrive next week. We'll have the three new alloy hard tails the 729, 629 and 529. Whyte have added a new smaller size for 2013 more...

We will be running a mini Whyte demo day on 8th September with a Whyte T129 trail bike, the M109 Marathon bike and the 29C carbon "do everything from racing to trail riding" hard tail.

We'll only have the two suspension bikes for a day so you'll be limited to an hours run around our usual demo circuit. Call the shop to book a ride.

Hogweed blisters

It's that time of year again. Watch out for the hogweed. As you blast down overgrown singletrack your arms and legs may have hogweed dragged across them. Hogweeds exude a clear watery sap which sensitizes the skin to ultraviolet radiation. This can result in blistering which can develop into purplish or blackened scars. There is more information here. If you have any experience of this or have a greater knowledge than me please contact us.

Olympic Torch goes by the front of the shopOlympic

Worthing streets were jammed with an enthusiastic crowd rather than impatient drivers as the Olympic Torch began its journey from outside the shop to North lancing.

We shared cake and bubbly with all that came here to view the passing of the torch. A good time was had by all. The next big this will be the Men's road race on the 28th July and the women's on the 29th. Cav should win the men's but he'll have his work cut out even with his mega team.

Marin, Whyte & Wilier 2013 product launch

We went to Renault Lotus design centre to see the 2013 bikes. We have catalogues for Marin and Whyte if you want to take a closer look. All three brands have some awesome bikes.

None of the Marin pictures came out but we have a catalogue, the new graphics are awesome and 29ers make up the bulk of the range. Good news - all the 2012 bikes are on offer if you want a deal now.

Wilier have a new Cento 1 SR as used by the Lampre Team in the Tour de France.

I suppose that the highlight must be the Whyte 29er full suspension bikes. The T129 has a Reverb post, X9 and a 120mm Reba all for £1,999. Check out some of the pictures on our Facebook page.

Gav will be off to Switzerland to see the new Scotts in a couple of weeks - he'll be riding the new Genius.

The Olympic Torch bearers start outside the shop on 16th July

Come to the shop at 4pm to see the Olympic Torch Bearers start of at 16:29 hrs from outside the shop. We'll give you cakes and bubbly to celebrate the passing of the Torch. You can then follow the procession on your bikes.

We think that it'll arrive by helicopter so be prepared for restricted parking and access by car.... will not a problem if you are coming by bike.

Beware of water - something to think about when caring for your bike

We have had a wet Summer and; hosing, despite the ban, is the most common method of cleaning a bike. However, bearings are usually made of hi-tensile steel which will rust when exposed to water or damp air. Bearings are usually protected by grease and the grease is protected by a seal. If water gets passed the seal the bearing will need changing. Often the lowest priced and highest prices bikes are the most vunerable. Why? The lower cost bikes don't have the best seals and the higher priced bikes often sacrifice durable seals for light weight.

Rain and washing your bike can cause water to get into the seals so bearings will need replacing or servicing regularly. Ask us for advice on cleaning, maintenance and upgrades.

Goodwood Gallops cancelled

Unfortunately, the Health and Safety Executive to the Goodwood Motor Circuit has set out a new criteria for safety following the death of a woman driver, not a cyclist. The Surrey League, organisers of the Goodwood Gallops, has been asked to provide 4 paramedics (not first aiders) and extra marshalls for the ever popular Tuesday evening road race series.

At such short notice and with the obvious extra cost the Surrey League has had to cancel until further notice. This a great same as it provides the only local and safe way for many to enjoy the agony and ecstacy of road racing. Road racing is inderently dangerous and crashes are a part of that but we are all willing to take the risk as without crashes, there is no adreanlin rush and as suh no excitment, might as well do a time trial or some turbo racing.....

For the 4th Cats you still have the option of racing at Dunsfold on Friday evenings. Get the full list of all Surrey League races here.

If you want to get some TT excitment why not join WECC on their Evening Ten Series on the A24 at Washington every Thursday 7pm.

Marin Rift Zone XC 29ers have arrived

We now have a demo Marin Rift Zone XC7 29er in medium for you to try. As this 100mm XC bike is a 29er it'll blow away most 120 - 140mm 26" trail bikes on but the biggest terrain. In other words, the perfect trail bike for round here and both versions at at a modest cost. The XC6 is only £1,799! See them here.

Whyte 146 X about to run out

We have just heard that the last Whyte 146 X are about to arrive. If you want one we can get hold of either the last medium orthe last latge but you'll need to be quick. Call the shop if you want the best trail bike that money can buy.

Light enough to be an XC bike but equiped for the Mega Avalanche. It'll destroy any UK Trail centre.

Summer MTB clothing now in stock from Fox, Northwave and Endura

Fox Attack and Livewire jerseys are now in stock. We have some great new baggie shorts from Nothwave and Fox with more to come.

We've also got the Endura Pakajak should the blustery weather continue and if it really pours the Endura Flyte jacket.

Hose pipe ban: Great news for mountain bikers

But this is bad news for the workshop. Modern bikes are much better and lighter that the old things that we used to use but this has come at a cost. Light weight it often less durable (but better). Some riders will look us in the eye and say that they never jetwash their bike but hosing it is just as bad and you'll be lucky to get more than 3 months out of some bottom brackets and headsets if you use a hose. So thank you for all the business that you have given us through the use of hoses and think how much you'll save now that we have a hose pipe ban.

Sabbath Ti 29er

Sabbath have just showed us a sample of their 29er. Crafted in 3Al-V2.5 titanium this bike is gorgeous. Read more here.

Thief steals our demo Scott Spark 35

Some toe rag stole our Scott Spark 35 demo bike today. Frame no: STM14D26M11100366 size medium. If you are offered this - shoot to kill! (or call the Police) Please share this.

The shop gets a refit

Just in time for the Summer clothing that will keep you both comfortable and "cool"  we are refitting the shop. We have a a new women's section and will be taking delivery of Fox gear next week. Why not come down and see what we have an let us know what else we should stock.

We have added Northwave as the brand offers incredible value and quality at both the budget and high end. We'll have shorts, jersey's and gloves from Fox and, of course, Endura will provide the base for all things clothing.

The last Whyte 29C available only at Quest Adventure

This great bike, arguably one of the best 29ers on the planet and certainly the best value. They have run out for the year but we have the last few mediums. If you want one call us asap.

We have also got on back order Scott Scale 29er Experts as these too have run out.

There is a lot of bikes around, too many, but if you want something really good you'll need to commit soon.

Mountain bike demo day is a great success

Thanks all for coming wirth a special thanks to Big Si, Janet, Jimbo, Hannah, Gav, Will & Will, Ash, Tom, Andy, Mike, Anja, Neil, Cazza and Ralton for regular banter. Check out the pictures here

Tomac mountain bike frames

Flint 29 large and Supermatic Carbon 120 large will be here for the demo day

We have just taken delivery of a quiver of Tomac frames, nice. There's the 140mm Snyper, 2 120mm bikes including carbon and of course a 29er hardtail and a full-on trail 120mm travel 29er: the Diplomat. Click here for more. In case you didn't know John Tomac was probably the best mountain bike race ever. His frames are bourne from his experience as one of the most successfull racers of all time and designed by the renowned frame designer, David Earle, who previously designed the Santa Cruz Blur and Nomad and prior to that worked for both Specialized and Bontrager.

Will Spiers Racing

Will Spiers gets 8th in Sport in today's Gorrick race. He wanted to race in a strong group rather than stay with the juniors. This is a great result and shows his good form. He used his new Whyte 29C which he described as "awesome" and he really noticed the wheel speed advantage of a 29er in the later stages when he was tiring. Well done Will.

Girl's MTB ride

Scott Contessa Girl's MTB ride 10th March'12. Thanks to Clare for leading, Caroline for organising the bikes, Scott Sports UK for supplying the bikes and to the 14 girls that came along for the ride... oh, and the sun and Spring temperatures. Excellent.
