Review
When you try these boots on the first thing that you notice is thet they feel like a top end road racing shoe. The sole is carbon reinforced, the upper super soft and the boot is featherlight. Unlike other winter boots that I've used these have a really soft cuff, infact they don't feel any different to your regular carbon shoes. The size is regular so if you are a 44 the 44 will fit. They are volumous so there is plenty room for a big foot or a thick sock. My feet are wide but skinny so I have added a flat insole under the Northwave insole (from the local cobbler at £1.50).
The boots are tightened with a locking draw string much the same as the Northwave snowboard boots. I wasn't sure if they were going to stay tight but after 3 hours riding they were still secure. The cuff is in two pieces which are secured with velcro.
So the fit and comfort are perfect. Are they water proof and warm? Northwave were the first cycle shoe manufacturer to work with Goretex so I am sure that these will keep out the water. I can't report until it rains, I did have the Celsius boot (the MTB version) and I can vouch for these. 100% waterproof! They are warm. It was freezing this morning and my tootsies were hot, really hot the whole ride. The same can be said of the Celsius.
What about value? They cost about the same as an over shoe. How did I work that out? An overshoe is not that warm or waterproof and can be trashed at the end of one year. These Northwave boots will last at least 6 years so at £23.33 a year that is about the price of a pair of overshoes.
